Stressed lol! x

I thought I'd better do a quick post to explain for my lack of them lol!

The thing is I have been pretty stressed these last few weeks...its all down to a huge decision I've had to make!

It may not seem like a huge step to many people, but to me changing my job has been a huge one. This is due to the fact that I have left my profession completely!

As most of you know I am a beauty therapist, and have been for four years. And I'm sure your all aware of how badly paid the industry is! Well I am getting to the age where id like to start thinking about moving out, and on my current wage this just isn't an option :(...so I have decided to leave the industry completely and now I'm going to work at an estate agents..random I know!!

However I have a slight Jekyll and Hyde syndrome at the moment..one side of me says "yep you have definatly made the right decision", it will mean better career prospects, long hours but in the long run I will be making more money and gaining more of a challenge! Also the estate agents allows me to have Sat's off to do wedding makeups etc, all of which I've had to turn down in the past as i work EVERY sat! The other side says why leave a career I'm passionate about and trained so hard for!

I hope you can see why I've been so stressed..I know people say its only a job, but I hate the thought of making the wrong decision. And for me its such a big one!

So basically I need words of wisdom...have any of you guys made a huge career decision..regretted it..or has it been the best move you ever made?
On a slightly girly note..any ideas on places to get lush office wear?!

  1. You just have to do what feels right for you. It sounds like it will be a good move for you, especially if you can do some extra work at the weekend. xx

  2. You will always have that beauty therapy experience and qualification, no one can take that away from you :) so it could always be a possibility to go back to it. Im also a beauty therapist and the pay is very poor, so im sure right now you have made the right decision :) good luck xxx

  3. I wish I could give you words of wisdom but I don't have any experience to speak from! But ASOS do have a nice workwear section! I think you're very brave to have done what you've done and I hope your decision will pay off :)

  4. my huge career decisions as been to stick with my passion.

i'm an aspiring performer and it's an industry that is so tough to break, especially since much of one's success relies on image.

like you, i wish to move out someday. but i think for right now i'm just gonna take advantage of the fact that i have the most supportive parents and see where this takes me. my situation's different because i haven't reached the goal yet, whereas you have.

but there comes a time when you have to start thinking about yourself. i think if you work hard at the real estate's now and get to the point where you can work part time hours, then you can revisit your passion and create a situation where you work someplace that earns you good money as well as working someplace that feeds your passion.

hope this all works out for you :)

  6. I've had to make a similar decision. I am a licensed cosmetologist, really enjoyed doing hair and makeup, but craved a more steady work environment, for more steady pay (I live on my own and had such a hard time paying bills)! I've tried to return to it many times, but I always regret it and go back to a more stable work environment. I was passionate about cosmetology, but was always so unhappy and disappointed with the workplaces.

I think I have found a happy medium though. I work m-f 9-5 as a bank teller, work like 10 hours a week in a retail store that I love to shop in (great discount ;)), but I still get my fix of cosmetology by doing hair and makeup on friends and family in my free time. No, I'm not making a living by doing cosmetology, and I hate that I paid so much for schooling and worked so hard to get my cosmetology license and am not using it, but I am happy with my decision. I can't see it as a waste, after all, I genuinely enjoy cosmetology in my free time, so I see it like I paid money to learn more about a hobby that I love! And if I ever change my mind and decide to do it as a career again, it'll always be there!

I really hope your decision works out for you! Keep us posted! :o)

  7. What a brave decision you have made!
I know exactly what you mean by having the devil and the angel on your shoulders. But your decision will pay off, and you could do beauty therapy in the evenings as a little extra money on the side. My friend is a qualified hair dresser, but like you have found, the industry is pants for money! So she does mobile hairdressing on evenings and the odd weekend. And now she has her own house and is engaged to be married.

I hope you find the happiness you deserve!
